Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat is an OB/GYN?An OB-GYN is a doctor who specializes in women’s health. They take care of things related to pregnancy (OB stands for obstetrics) and reproductive health (GYNE stands for gynecology). What services do OB-GYNs provide?OB-GYNs offer various services, including regular check-ups, pregnancy care, birth control advice, and treatment for reproductive health issues. How often should I see my OB-GYN?It’s recommended to visit your OB-GYN at least once a year for a check-up. If you’re pregnant or have specific health concerns, you may need to go more often. What happens during a routine check-up?During a routine check-up, your OB-GYN will ask about your health, perform a physical exam, and may do tests like Pap smears or breast exams. Can I see an OB-GYN if I'm not pregnant?Yes! OB-GYNs provide care for all aspects of women's health, not just pregnancy. What should I bring to my appointment?Bring your ID, insurance information, and any medical records. It’s also helpful to have a list of questions or concerns you want to discuss. Are OB-GYNs only for adults?No, OB-GYNs can see teenagers and young women for health education, puberty questions, and reproductive health. What if I have a high-risk pregnancy?The Intermountain MFM team works closely with pregnant women and their chosen OB or CNM. A Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) provider is an OB specializing in identifying and managing high-risk pregnancy. An MFM is also referred to as a perinatologist. Can I bring a doula?Yes. Families are welcome to bring a doula to their labor and delivery. Do you offer Childbirth Education?Intermountain offers a wide variety of classes and resources to educate parents through pregnancy and childbirth. |
