Know Your Numbers and Risks

Your risk of heart disease is based partly on genetics (or family history), but also on lifestyle. The most important thing you can do to get ahead of heart disease is to know what your numbers are, and the risk factors you have so you and your primary care physician can make a plan together.

Risk factors include:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking (even exposure to second-hand smoke)
  • Obesity
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Physical inactivity
